It was Sunday today, I made the 30 minute walk into town at dusk in search of dinner, I've been cooking at the base but felt tonight I'd explore what Wendover had to offer. I found the Paradise Grill, one of the many eateries in Montego Bay Casino - a seriously exotic/kitsch establishment, a place where every surface is mirrored and every axis contains a glowing neon, a different visual overload to the expanses of desert. While I was eating my burger I wrote this on my napkin:
I do things and I document them. So I use film and photography to document actions. The actions are a result of a thought process, a means for me to work through thoughts and expose them for analysis. I think about us and how we relate to the world. I try to be open minded, objective - an observer or an interpreter. Although I like to have discussions I don't partake in many exhibitions, I am not a fan of the Art-world or its politics. For the resulting images I like to use my website as a kind of personal gallery, I don't promote it as such but I do realise it is a public space. I upload images/thoughts and see how they work together, playing with order and content, thinking about the resulting dialogues. In this way my practice is self reflexive, however the context of the work is always changing and therefore the loop is not closed. I like to hear what others think about when they find out what I do, I like to hear what direction my thoughts take their thoughts. I don't work to teach or preach, I believe we are all affecting. My practice is part of my thought process, it allows me to externalise my thoughts so I can view them from a distance, make them tangible and process them as such. A less abstract space.
