Image: Pizza Hut (not from the road), Wendover
One of the things I have noted from my driving through Southern California, Nevada and Utah is that this part of the world is designed to be seen from the road. The fast food outlets, garages, shops, houses, advertisements are near enough two-dimensional facades – not unlike the obligatory Western saloon depicted in movies.
Today I walked back to the base through Wendover from the grocery store, my friend Fred dropped me there on his way out of town, I walked behind all the stores, casinos, fast food outlets and garages. These other spaces/views are interesting, maybe of more interest is that access to these spaces is denied for the motor car, but there is nothing to prevent entry for the curious pedestrian.
