Rhyolite was a town located just inside Nevada, on the edge of Death Valley. It is derelict now after the mining operations ceased many years ago. It is rare that some of the original buildings are still there, materials left lying around are generally recycled within new structures.
The town is attended by Jay Brown, a BLM (Bureau of Land Management) Volunteer, he stays on site in his trailer, double bolted at night. In the summer months he is a fire watcher for a National Forest in Utah. He has very few teeth and keeps his long grey hair under a BLM baseball cap. He wears black Oakleys and speaks to his white Chihuahua.
