Image: Nancy Holt, Sun Tunnels (1976)
Arriving late in the twilight hours, Fred spotted the four cylinder’s on the horizon – it was good spotting as their concrete surfaces meld with the surrounding tundra. We set up camp and shortly after I fell asleep. It was a cold night, dropping to a cool 24 Fahrenheit, an extra sleeping bag borrowed from the Residence Support Unit prevented my freezing.
I awoke at sunrise and experienced Holt’s work in a half asleep, half frozen state. After taking a few pictures we made the 3 hour travel home, hunger was striking and the thought of pasta for breakfast wasn’t cutting it.
